Products

Since all my tube consoles are custom built there are no standard products as such, so this section simply lists all the products to date starting with the latest and ending with the first prototype.  Information on both completed products and work in progress is given.

Helios/Pultec EQ Demo Rack

Several prospective clients have asked for per channel EQ. The two most requested passive EQ types have been Pultec and Helios Type 69. The EQP1-A is perhaps the most popular Pultec design but it lacks a mid range control. I have therefore extended the frequency range of the Hi and Lo Boost/Cut of the EQP1-A and added an overlapping Mid Cut.

As far as I am aware, no-one has designed a tube version of the Helios Type 69 EQ. There are various versions of the Type 69 EQ so I have tried to include the widest range of cut/boost frequencies whilst retaining the same basic topology.

Both EQ types have been built into a 3U 9inch rack unit which is currently on demonstration with prospective console purchasers.

6 Into 2 Mixer

My first custom all tube mixer is for a client who makes on location classical recordings. For maximum fidelity a minimum signal path design has been used  with a simple passive switched high pass filter per channel. Each channel also has switchable phantom power, phase reverse and 20dB pad. Rather than pan pots, each channel has Left and Right assignment switches which allow each channel to be routed Left, Right, Centre or Off.

Twin Channel Demo Rack

In August 2010 a twin channel demonstration mic pre housed in a 3U 9 inch rack case  was completed. It has a  maximum gain of 70dB,, includes switchable phantom power, phase reverse and a 20dB pad. It is currently on tour in the USA and has spent time recording all types of music in a local radio station and has been on the road with a country band. If you want to hear the sonic capabilities of my designs please use the contact page to get in touch and arrange a demonstration.

First Prototype

The first channel prototype was built in early 2010 and is still on test with a client. It’s not pretty but it works very well. It has no phantom power but is does have a wide ranging gain control and a high pass filter. Here is a picture of its insides along with a drawing of how the channel module is expected to finally appear:

The metal chassis running along the centre and the tag board holding components above it will be replaced by a single PCB. Here is a picture of the bare PCB.

A two channel version for demonstration purposes is currently being manufactured. Based on the same PCB, it includes phantom power and is housed in a 3U high 19 inch rack case.

The first real product is a 6 into 2 mixer for client in the USA. It is currently being manufactured but here is a picture of what it should look like when complete:
